Day 2 - Review
So today's goal was simple - have a quiet time. My son didn't sleep as soundly or as long as I would've liked or expected but with an enforced (necessary) quiet time for him, I finished up my quiet time with God and soul-satisfying it was too.
I've recently returned to the enjoyment of listening to sermons (both from our church and those around the world) via podcasts and I hadn't realised how much I had missed them. Our souls need food and mine was hungry I can tell you, adding this in as a regular weekly activity would be another good addition to my life.
Otherwise the day played out fairly well, errands were done (my son's glasses are very professor-cute), many of the already-in-place procedures/routines were carried out (i.e. managed Scripture memory work (just after breakfast), singing worship (in the car), prayer times (before nap and bed, including The Lord's Prayer but missed out on grace before dinner, also missed prayer sticks (at optician) and catechism (at asda) but such is life). Clothes await us for the morrow and the baby bag stands ready and waiting for the morning service at church, in hopes that needed naps notwithstanding we'll make it.
As these days seem to dictate alas, tears and tantrums were prevalent (from both my son and I). A major frustration that my boy handled beautifully and I monumentally broke down over was traffic delays due to band parades (the kind of which I am unsupportive); our ten minute journey home became over an hour of queues and re-navigation through our town. A nervous driver and poor navigator at the best of times, the situation left me stressed, overwhelmed and crying. My son greatly enjoyed what we heard of the bands and was as pacified as can be.
In the spirit of thankfulness though I must add that fortunately I'd fed (breastfed) my son before leaving the shopping centre so he was full and happy and I had one less stress; fortunately I had chosen not to purchase any frozen foods and I ought to count myself lucky that I had a car to allow me to be stuck in traffic and frustrated in the first place.
As a side note we are training our wee one to stay in for the whole church service with varying degrees of success - namely we usually find it necessary to exit to the vestibule (from where we can still hear the sermon) but then we have days such as last Sunday morn when Hubby and I and our son ALL enjoyed the WHOLE service, uninterrupted - woo-hoo. Training continues - this is a marathon not a sprint people.
Furthermore I completed His challenge to be a "good wife:"
She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. . . In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. . . When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.(Proverbs 31 v 13, 19, 21-22 - NIVUK)
Basically, I repaired one of my son's cloth nappies (immediately it came out of the wash). Frugal living and good stewardship people, working with eager hands, with no fear of said nappy now falling off due to a loose fastener. As the slogan goes "my cloth nappy makes me happy."
